Six Secrets to an Inspiring Desk and Workspace

Six Secrets to An Inspiring Workspace
Six Secrets to An Inspiring Workspace

Three years ago, we moved my home office from the downstairs study to the "bonus room" in our upstairs. As I set out to create this personalized space for a room I spend majority of my time in, there are a few secrets I found along the way to help increase my productivity.

More productivity = a more happy you, and more things that get done!

Bring the outdoors in! Whether it's fresh blooms from outside or adding a simple bouquet to your weekly grocery shopping list (I've been known to do both), fresh flowers are just something that make everything more pretty.

Enjoy a beverage in your favorite glass. Personalized mugs and tumblers with inspiring messages are my go-to beverage holders. Even better is that the need to refill will force you to get up more often instead of being glued to your chair!

Make a vision board. This was one of my recent creative projects that I can't believe I didn't do sooner. In the past, I'd build these in Pinterest in January and there they'd live most of the year, unnoticed. This year, I used Persnickity Prints to design a collage poster of my inspiration and motivation for the year ahead, and I absolutely love it. Stay tuned for an upcoming post where I'll map out some more of the how-to behind this project.

Surround yourself with inspiring art prints & messages. I'm a firm believer in surrounding yourself with positive messages. They really do make their way into your everyday when you're surround by them. See the link I provided below for your free art print to print, frame and inspire you daily! It's the same as the art print I have on my wall.

Don't forget your favorite places & friend photos. It's true, most of my home is filled with pictures of the family and kids. However, in my office, many of the photos are of my besties from over the years, both in my business world relationships, and those from my mommy friendships. Also, I like to include images from adventures of recent traveling.

Get organized. I'll admit, I'm the first to start getting irritable once the desk starts filling up with loose papers or when it becomes a 'drop zone' for every random thing around the house. A good filing system is key and so is a good planner system. I often say, 'when I don't plan the day, the day plans me.' I make an effort to rough out a schedule for the gaps of time in between scheduled calls and meetings, and I make it a goal to check off at least 3 items from my daily to-do list. I often reference either my Simplified Planner or my PowerSheets for tending. Both are likely to be open on my desk on any given day!

Bonus Tip: Fill your space with things that fire you up. For me, I absolutely love scented candles. Add a lit candle to my desk alongside a fresh jar of blooms and my favorite coffee mug, and you'll find a happy little busy bee.
